The modern Mustang has been designed with specific fuel and oil requirements, which are even more critical on supercharged or power-enhanced engines. Through our experience with late model Mustangs, as well as our close relationships with enhancement suppliers such as Roush, Shelby and Whipple, we can recommend the best products and specifications to provide the ultimate performance and protection for your Mustang.

What fuel should I run in my Mustang?

We recommend only using BP Ultimate 98 in all Mustangs, whether V8 or EcoBoost versions. BP Ultimate 98 is the only fuel that is rated to the USA Standard Premium fuel 93 which is (RON+MON/2). BP Ultimate 98 fuel is especially paramount for supercharged and boosted engines.

 

What engine oil should I use in my supercharged or high performance Mustang?

For supercharged engines, Mustang Motorsport recommends using only Castrol Edge Supercar 5W50. We also recommend this oil for cars which are used on the racetrack or other high performance or high load applications. Don't ever consider using anything but the highest grade engine oil, as it not only ensures your Mustang performs at its peak, but also provides superior lubrication and protection for longer engine life.

 

What engine oil should I run in my 'standard' naturally aspirated Mustang V8?

Castrol Magnetic A5 5W30 engine oil is the most suitable for everyday use in standard Mustang V8 engines, providing great protectiona dn performance at reasonable cost. If you plan to hit the racetrack or experience any high load applications, see recommendation above for high performance applications. 

 

What should the spark plug gap be in my supercharged Mustang?

Our recommendation is a gap of 0.78mm. Please note that checking teh spark plug gap is an operation requiring accurate gauges and specialised tools, and should not be attempted by anyone without expert knowledge. Incorrect removal or replacement of spark plugs can cause serious physical and operational damage to an engine.

 

How often should spark plugs be replaced in my supercharged Mustang?

We recommend inspection (and potential replacement) at 20,000km intervals. The spark plugs often last around 50,000km, but should be regularly inspected from 20,000km. If your vehicle is used on the racetrack or in other high performance applications, all serviceable parts should be inspected or replaced more frequently. How often should my supercharged Mustang be serviced?

Our recommended service interval for all supercharged Mustangs is 7,500km or 6 months. Supercharging puts extra strain on the entire powertrain, so more regular servicing and checks are very cheap insurance compared to the high cost of not maintaining your Mustang correctly, and the potential ensuing damage or premature wear.

 

What is the run-in/break-in procedure for a supercharged Mustang?

For the first 2,000km after having a supercharger fitted, you should not accelerate hard, exceed 4,000rpm, or use Cruise Control. These simple steps, along with the recommended servicing and maintenance shedule, will ensure your supercharged Mustang provides superior perfomance long term. Failure to follow these guidelines may cause premature failure of powertrain components and void any warranty.
